[ That she'll have bruises is something that only adds to his smugness. Leaving a visible sign, however temporary, feeds his desire for victory and conquest. With a lover, it takes on an added dimension of having left a mark one someone adored and possessed completely.

He finds one of the red marks his fingers left on her hip, traces it over lightly. ]


Your choice. [ The act of marking her, if not deliberate, is the satisfying thing. By habit he tends to avoid leaving bruises or bite marks or scratches where they'd be easily visible anyway unless asked otherwise, out of a desire for privacy. (Not that such marks tend to last long anyway in a place where death and resurrection is in everyone's near future.) It's ultimately her body, even if she's honored him by sharing for a little while. ]
